Data from magnetic observatories record a superposition of time-dependent signals related to a fantastic diversity of physical phenomena in the Earth's core, mantle, lithosphere, ocean, ionosphere, magnetosphere, and, even, the Sun and solar wind. Magnetic-observatory data are often used for scientific research, but recently they are also. COVID Resources. A magnetic observatory is a specially designed ground-based facility that supports time-series measurement of the Earth’s magnetic field. Observatory data record a superposition of time-dependent signals related to a fantastic diversity of physical processes in the Earth’s core, mantle, lithosphere, ocean, ionosphere, magnetosphere, and, even, the Sun and solar wind. The magnetic flux distribution in recorded films, and the maximum packing density in high‐coercivity evaporated cobalt film were investigated. With magnetic longitudinal recording the resultant highest density was bits per inch. This experiment has proven that electron holography is useful for the study of magnetic recording.

Abstract: This collection contains technical documentation, inventory records, and correspondence regarding the instruments and equipment created, purchased, tested, or used by the Department of Terrestrial Magnetism (DTM) at the Carnegie Institution of Washington (CIW).

This lithograph was used as a plate in a volume about magnetic and meteorological observations; it illustrates an oblique elevation and floor plan of the magnetic observatory building at Girard College in Philadelphia. This was the first magnetic observatory in the United States, constructed on the west grounds of the school in after designs by architect Thomas Ustick Walter.

The Toronto Magnetic and Meteorological Observatory, also known as the Stewart Observatory (a name adopted in the s), is a small observatory located on the grounds of the University of Toronto, in Toronto, Ontario, original building was constructed in as part of a worldwide research project run by Edward Sabine to determine the cause of fluctuations in magnetic declination.

A strong motivation in running magnetic observatories is to monitor the evolu-tion of the Earth’s main magnetic field, originating in the fluid outer core. The impor-tance of long-term observations in support of this endeavour is illustrated in Fig.
